What size tile can I use?
You can use various size tiles, from 4”, 6” to 8” (also 6x8”, 8x10”, and
8x12”) and all the metric equivalents of course!
Is it a permanent finish?
Yes. Our glazes are fired to a minimum temperature of 800°C and fuse with
the glaze of the base tile. However, we do not recommend that our painted
tiles are used on floors or worktops, as constant wear could eventually
damage the tiles.
Can I use your tiles outside?
For use in the U.K., any tile directly exposed to the elements would need
to be frost proof. Please contact us for further details.
I don’t live locally, so how easy is it for me to commission your
hand-painted tiles?
Distance is not a problem. Ideas, information and designs can be exchanged
via phone, email, fax and post. And when your tiles are completed, we can
arrange for delivery by a courier.
Do I have to grout my tiles? Surely this will spoil the picture?
For practical reasons tiles need to be grouted. This doesn’t detract from
the over all visual impact as the panel is designed taking account of the
grout joints.
Hand made tiles are more irregular in shape than machine made tiles and
therefore require a larger grout joint. (So a rustic hand made tile would
not be suitable for a geometric design.
Do you fix the tiles?
No. Your local tile shop should be able to recommend a good tiler. All the
tiles that make up our panels are numbered and supplied with a
corresponding plan so there is no confusion as to where they are
positioned.
I want to tile behind my Aga, but what about the flue?
A lot of our painted tiles are installed behind Agas and we are accustomed
to incorporating the flue into the design.
How long will it take to get my tiles?
Agreeing on a design and producing artwork and colour samples usually
takes a couple of weeks. At this point we can give you a completion date,
but it is usually no more than 6 – 8 weeks from confirmation of your
order.
Does your price include the base tile?
No, unless we have agreed to supply the base tile, and in which case this
will be identified in our written quotation.
How do I clean my tiles?
In most cases hand painted tiles are as durable as factory made tiles and
can be cleaned using general kitchen or bathroom cleaning products.
However, the use of acid based cleaners (lime scale removers) and
abrasives is not recommended. We find that most of our clients use washing
up liquid and a sponge.
How do I pay for my tiles?
A 50% deposit is required on confirmation of the order, and the balance is
payable on completion. Our trading terms & conditions will be laid out in
our quotation.
